Pete Sampras is a famous and professional tennis player. He is one of the most admired all American tennis players. He was born in August 12 1971 in Washinngton D.C. Sampras is the third of four children of Sam and Georgia Sampras, a mechanical engineer and housewife respectively. They are the Greek immigrants. His brothers name is Gus, and his sisters are Stella and Marion.
Sampras is right-handed tennis player. His weight is 79 kg, his height is 1.80 cm. His age is 26. He lives in Tampa, Florida, USA. Now he is number one in singles in the world.
Pete has an easy-going nature, but on the court he has an aggressive serve a long with a competitive style that has won him many fans as well as Grand Slam titles. As a personality Pete is very straightforward, sincere and candid. Fans like his direct, easy-going personality.
He has been critised for everything from to his style of play to his posture on the court. Some have complained that he needs to change his so called boring personality.But through it all he has been true to himself and , for the most past, has simply let his racquets do the talkings over years.

Even a boy, Pete showed signs of having outstanding athletic ability. As a youngest, Pete discover a tennis racquet in the basement of their house in Potamac, Maryland. This place is where he spent his early childhood. He used to spend hours hitting balls against the basement walls.
In the summer of 1978, the Sampras family drove across the U.S. to Palos Verdes, California , outside of Los Angeles. Sam Sampras (father of Pete) has accepted a new job in the aerospace industry. The family was happy about moving into a warm climate. Seven year old Pete Sampras became more and more involved in the game of tennis.He was like a professional. Soon the family joined the Peninsula Racquet Club. They played a great deal of tennis together.
When Pete was in second grade, he was coached by Pete Fischer; he began his junior tennis career at the age of nine.
One of the Samprass closest competitiors during his years on the junior tennis circuit was Andre Agassi. At sixteen, Sampras reached the finals of the United States Tennis Associations Boys 18 Nationals, where he lost to Michael Chang; he was also on the junior Davis Cup team. Sampras left high school after his junior year in 1988 to join the professional tennis circuit.
Pete started getting noticed on the tennis tour in 1988 as a 16 year old qualifilier. He played a game, they called dangerous. It took him two years to reach the top ten, and along the way he defeated several of the great tennis legends. His first Grand Slam title was the U.S. open that he won in 1990 with an unbelieveable serve that surprised players like Agassi, Lendl, and Mc Enroe. At the age of 19, Pete was the youngest tennis player ever to win the coveted U.S. Open Cup.
In 1992, Pete loss to the Swedish player Stefan Edberg in U.S. Open final in Flushing Meadows, New York. He became very sad for this.
To that end, Sampras signed on with a new coach, former professional Tim Gullikson, the twin brother of another talented former professional and future Davis Cup captain, Tom Gullikson.
During the 1995 Australian Open, Samprass coach Tim Gullikson had brain cancer. Because of this reason he became worry and sad. He broke down and cried openly during his quarterfinal match, he eventually lost in the finals to Agassi. Gullikson died in May 1996. It was a big loss for Sampras, who thinks his coach as a close friend.
His best quality is that he has a great staying power. Thats a big part of his appeal.
Every year Petes goal is try to win one big Grand Slam, and if he does it is a good year. If its two it is a great year.
Golf is one of the favourite sport of Petes. He says that if he was not a professional tennis player he would have played professional golf. His reasons are that golf is a sport that you can play for 30 years. In tennis, your carrier only lasts 10 or 12 years. In tennis, your body takes a lot of pounding, and golf is easier on the body.
From 1990 to 1996, Sampras was romantically involved with Laina Mulcahy, an attorney, and from 1997 to 1999 he dated with actress Kimberly Williams. In late September of 2000, Sampras married another actress, Brigitte Wilson, a former Miss Teen USA who has appeared in such films as Billy Madison, and I know what you did last summer.
